Company Description and Position Overview:
Fifth Layer is an early-stage, start-up product company focused on creating real-time applications built on the Fifth Layer real-time messaging platform. Our flagship product, SyncPad, is a real-time collaboration whiteboard application for the iPad, iPhone and Internet browsers. We have contracts with banks, schools, and private enterprises and an expansive user base of App Store customers. SyncPad has already received notable media recognition, but we are evolving the product suite and looking to expand it into new markets.
Fifth Layer seeks an entry-level, junior software engineer to help develop, launch and maintain SyncPad iOS. The ideal candidate is creative and quality-driven with a strong work ethic and a passion for mobile development. You have developed several iOS apps and possess the ability to pick up tools and technologies and apply them quickly to the product development effort. Responsibilities:
- Conduct research, develop and present enhancement solutions and ideas, develop proof of concepts
- Participate in Lean development methodologies, specifically using a Kanban
- Assist in publishing finished application to App Store for release
- Develop fixes and troubleshoot as needed
- Perform Unit / QA testing
Skills & Qualifications:
- 1+ year of iOS Developer (iPhone/iPad)
- Familiarity with Apple Store and release management
- Familiarity with Objective C, Cocoa framework, ASI Request, and other libraries
- Solid experience with version control (we use GitHub) and bug tracking
- Knowledge of conversational and written English
- Must have a working knowledge of HTTP, Javascript, and REST APIs.
- Complete understanding of Cocoa programing methodologies and memory management
- An understanding of block and/or multi-threaded based programing concepts
- Ability and desire to deliver high-quality results on aggressive timelines in a startup environment
Nice-to-Haves:
- Agile and Lean development methodologies (we use Kanban)
- Experience with HTTP long polling, web sockets, or similar real-time practices
- Android, Erlang, or Ruby experience is a major bonus
